Sad Statistics of Our Dying World. Then and Now.

  • Everyone knew how to cook, it was a life skill.
  • If you couldn't grow it from your back yard, you were out of luck.
  • Children played
  • World hunger was the #1 killer

Then...

  • Planes, trains and automobiles were invented.
  • Importing and exporting exploded.
  • Modern inventions... Refrigeration, processing and packaging, canning, the microwave oven, Freeze drying, Frozen meals, pasteurization, vacuum packing, preservatives and FAST FOOD!!!

Now...

  • Chefs are like rock stars , for having a life skill that we all should possess to a degree, but many sadly don't. This is ridiculous !!
  • We can eat things that Kings never had! We have access to foods that were unknown to some of the most influential people on earth. Jesus never had chocolate. King Tut never had coffee. • The #1 global killer is no longer starvation, ... it is problems from OBESITY. Huh ??
  • For the first time in human history, parents are statistically more likely to OUTLIVE their children. Huh???
  • Among factors contributing to this, is the in the last 100 years, the once common LIFE SKILL of cooking is now considered an ART FORM, ... mostly because few know how to cook any more.
  • Many now depend on calorie laden, chemically enhanced, conveniently packaged, nutritionally challenged food to live on. We are pickling ourselves!
  • " Garbage in,... garbage" is not just for computers. It is time to stop this trend. How? Learn how to cook !! Even a few of the basics, will make a big difference.
  • Children 2-18, spend an average of 5 1/2 hours a day watching a screen
  • Most worrying is the increase in obesity among children. Only 30 years ago obesity in children was rare, and extreme obesity was almost unheard of.
  • 1.7 (28%) billion are overweight 1.1 (18%) billion are starving
  • Diseases related to obesity cause more than half of all deaths worldwide outpacing those caused by malnutrition.
  • 60- 80% of obesity cases are due to lifestyle.
  • Americans spend $30 billion annually on weight loss programs.
  • Over 98 percent of all Americans who diet, re-gain the weight back plus more within 5 years.
  • The theory that human beings have a biological circuit-breaker that would kick in to quell appetite and prevent over-consumption ... is a fallacy.
  • The past 40 years have shown that, given the right environment of limitless energy-rich foods combined with sedentary pursuits, almost anyone can grow fat.
  • "Unscrupulous" food companies should have the obesity problem on their consciences.
